Dr. Michael Johnston, Director
Dr. Johnston is a thoracic surgical oncologist and Professor of Surgery at Dalhousie University. He received his MD degree from the University of Illinois, trained in general surgery at the University of Washington and cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. He held appointments as Senior Investigator in the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute and as Head of Surgical Oncology at the University of Colorado Cancer Center before moving to Toronto in 1991. He practiced for many years at Princess Margaret, Mt. Sinai and Toronto General Hospitals and was Professor of Surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Johnston has been a principal investigator on both basic and clinical research grants from CIHR, NCIC and NIH. His laboratory interests involve targeted therapies for thoracic malignancies and lung cancer model systems while his main clinical focus is on lung cancer screening and early detection.
Cindy Pettipas, Administrative Director
Cindy has a BBA from Acadia University and has Canadian Securities Course and Professional Financial Planning Course Certificates. She worked for many years with TDCanada Trust and served as the Provincial Director of the Terry Fox Foundation Nova Scotia Office before working at BHCRI.
Shannon Donovan, Administrative Assistant
Shannon has received Diplomas in Computer Support, Information Systems Support and Photography and also has a Certificate in Business. She has worked for a number of years in those fields and has been involved in the non-profit sector since 2005.
