Unlocking the Secrets of the Nucleus
Dr. Graham Dellaire is studying how various parts of the nucleus influence the development of cancer. He’s looking closely at ‘PML nuclear bodies,’ junctions in the nucleus that play a major role in cancer-related processes like DNA repair, cell death and tumour suppression. Dr. Dellaire sees PML nuclear bodies as potentially powerful biomarkers that could be measured to monitor the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation – within 24 hours of treatment. Such rapid feedback would allow physicians to adjust treatment promptly to improve survival and avoid the unnecessary suffering and expense of ineffective treatments.
